The Story Behind Miles
A love of dogs, adventure, and the magic of storytime brought Miles to life.
Every great story starts with a real connection — and for Miles the Adventure Dog, that connection is deeply personal. The series was born from years of outdoor adventures shared between a child and his beloved dog, exploring trails, meadows, and wild places that sparked the imagination.
As a parent and dog lover, the author wanted to create books that capture the pure joy of that bond — the kind of friendship that teaches kids about curiosity, kindness, and the wonder of the natural world. Miles isn't just a character; he's a tribute to every dog who has ever made a child feel brave enough to explore.
The Miles the Adventure Dog series is written for families who love the outdoors, who read aloud together at bedtime, and who believe that a good dog makes every adventure better.
"I wanted kids to see themselves in these stories — curious, a little brave, and always better with a dog by their side."
The first book, How Miles Got His Name, is based on the real-life story of how a lost little puppy chose his new family and that family chose him. The love a boy had for his dog and the desire to experience all that life had to offer together became the seed for an entire series.
The little brown Pitador at the heart of the stories is inspired by the real Miles the Adventure Dog - loyal, playful, and endlessly enthusiastic about whatever adventure comes next. Every illustration and every page is crafted to feel warm, real, and full of heart.
